I started with an issue where my ABS light, handbrake light and traction control light came to my attention. I took my car to MyCar Tyre & Auto Clifford Gardens for a diagnostic scan which I was pointed into the direction of an auto electrician after the guy that was trying to help me Googled codes on his phone that the scanner had picked up and seemed to be taking a wild guess. I was recommended to take my car to Horton's as they have a "link" with them. I was given the option to leave my car in the hands of MyCar and they would take it down to Horton's themselves but I declined to give it more thought as I really couldn't be without my car. A day later after giving some thought I decided to bite the bullet and ring Horton's myself on the 21/04/2026 to speak to someone about booking my car in and talk me through the process. I was told that they need to carry out their own diagnostic scan and would go from there. I came into town to drop my car off to Horton's at 8am on the 27/04/2026 and rang for an update at 3:08pm as I live out of town and had already waited in town for 7 hours. Tom found that there was a communication error with the instrument cluster and "doesn't believe there is any issue with the ABS or any sensors itself". This would require joints to be "resoldered" costing $800 as the cheapest solution and would take "1 week" of their time OR a replacement of the instrument cluster using a "second hand" part then needed to be reprogrammed costing $1800 with a 4 week turnover. Tom said "this is a common issue and have had 3 i20's in the past week with similar issues". In my defence I asked "if it's a common issue and you deal with them frequently, which option is going to be most effective and will guarantee a solution?". I got the response that it's an "educated guess. Trial and error". I trusted these people to fix my car within the week as mentioned due to having an emergency medical appointment I needed to attend the following Monday leaving my car as my only form of transportation and giving them the money that I had. On the 6/05/2026 around 11:30am I received a call that my car was fixed and taken for a test drive with no faults detected. I picked up my car, paid $800 for the repair plus $275 for the diagnostic scan, drove it for a total of 20 minutes before the same ABS, traction and handbrake lights came on again. I took my car straight back to Horton's and told the lady at reception that the lights had come back on again. She went to get Tom who then came out to have a look at my car. Tom turned my car off as I left it idling to show him in person that the lights were on. Turned it back on immediately to see there weren't any lights displaying. Turned it off and immediately on again with the same result. I asked Tom what it was that was exactly done during the repair and explained that "There were 3 or 4 soldered joints that were removed and noticed the joints weren't heating properly which seemed to be an original issue from the manufacturer and those joints were then resoldered and the instrument cluster refitted". Tom didn't know what more to say other the fact that the soldering joints simply weren't the issue and came to the conclusion that the next best thing was to give my car up for 4 weeks and to pay $1800 for a second hand instrument cluster. Tom had an agitated attitude, rubbing his head and rang somebody who he had a connection with to discuss the issue and it was then estimated $600-$1400. I did not have this kind of money to keep coughing up. No refund was negotiable, no remorse, no apologies from anyone, only a 12 month warranty applied solely on the soldering work after I shed a few tears expressing the fact that I felt robbed. I declined entertaining further business with these people and needed to think about it. I drove my car home with deep regret in dealing with these people to THEN find that my LCD odometer display had been damaged (as shown in the photo). The issue ended up simply being a faulty wheel speed sensor which I chose to be fixed elsewhere..

Can not recommend these guys enough. Tom and Tim were very professional and knew exactly what they were talking about. Sorted out a few issues I had in a timely manner and gave me a lot of expert advice. I will be sticking with Horton's moving forward for all my auto needs.
