I had this mechanic come out for a roadside pink slip ($140) and it was a really disappointing experience. My car had a full service four months ago when I bought it, including brand new wipers. Had no issue with the car whatsoever, but then be called my wipers “cheap,” then deliberately ripped the rubber, saying they “shouldn’t rip that easily.” When I questioned him, he had an attitude about it and was rude and argumentative. He also tried to tell me they were already ripped as another excuse, which is not true at all. I confirmed just now with my dealership that the wipers on my vehicle were replaced four months ago when I bought the car. He removed the wipers without asking, fitted new ones without offering a price, and then charged $90. He claimed they weren’t cleaning properly, even though I explained it was just tree sap from where I park. It felt like he was trying to create extra costs to make more money given it took him less than a minute to install and the wipers were marked up so much compared to retail. It all happened too quickly for me to even realise what he was doing. I feel stupid for giving him a second chance — after our first encounter last year, when he broke his own drill bits removing a bolt from my wheel and tried to charge me for his drill pieces that he broke. As if I should be expected to pay for your tools if you’re the one who broke them!! There are far better mechanics in the area who are honest, professional, and fairly priced.
