About the company

Motors Hobart Service is part of Motors Group Tasmania, which commenced operations in 1910 selling Ford cars and tractors. In 1929, Motors was appointed the sole Tasmanian dealer of General Motors' products. AP Eagers purchased Motors Group Tasmania in April 2016. The group has a workforce of more than 500 people and is the largest employer of apprentice technicians in Tasmania.

It is the exclusive dealer of Holden, HSV, GMSV and Hyundai motor vehicles in Tasmania and also sells and services Nissan. Motors has dealerships located at Hobart, Launceston and Devonport. It has received General Motors-Holden's awards, including the Grand Masters Dealer Award. Motors offers full service, parts and body shop repair support.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Communication emerges as the central thread running through the feedback for Motors Hobart Service, with both praise and frustration clustering around how the business handles customer contact. On the positive side, various customers describe reliable, professional attention, singling out Shane and his team for going beyond expectations, while others note that a minor problem with a Hyundai was diagnosed and fixed promptly during a short stop-in visit. A Tasmanian inspection was handled with care, including protective covers placed over the seats so they would not get dirty.

Reviewers often mention the helpfulness of staff and the willingness to correct issues that arose after a recall repair, including an infotainment software upgrade at no charge. Alongside this, a different theme appears in the lower-rated accounts: difficulty getting callbacks, delays in securing a booking, and repeat visits for the same unresolved fault. Some describe a repair that needed multiple attempts before the cause was identified, and one recounts a problem that remained after several returns. The result is a picture of a workshop where the technical work is often done well but where follow-through on communication is inconsistent, affecting the experience for a portion of customers at this Hobart centre.

I phoned twice, left name, mobile number, details of service I needed - no reply whatsoever. In desperation, just tried to book service online. In summary, the BYD Dolphin has been great but the service department so far has been totally unresponsive and lets BYD down totally

Extremely disappointed...took my kona back because of a fault. They stated they Would charge me to look and decide if it was a possible fault. My car was out of warranty but the invoice stated repair was due to a fault but they still charged me. They were sneaky and told me on the phone hyundai would not replace the part.i had to have it fixed as was unsafe and they were charging me to look at it. Agreed to have it replaced. Went to pick it up..was told printer wasn't working..could they email payment..noted when emailed that invoice clearly stated part was replaced due to being inappropriate felt cheated and very annoyed..car very low kms. Even though car has been good will never deal with motors or hyundai again

We popped in to get help for a minor problem with our Hyundai. We received , as always, prompt, helpful and friendly service. Problem fixed! 10 minutes later we’re on our way.

I’ve been going to Motors Hobart for over 10 years with various vehicles and have never had an issue until now. This experience was so bad that I feel compelled to leave a review. It took a month just to get my car booked in for a service. When I made the booking, I was specifically asked for drop‑off and pick‑up times. I dropped the car off at 7:30am and clearly stated I needed it back by 3pm because I had commitments afterwards. When I arrived to drop it off, I was suddenly told there were “a bunch of additional things” that needed doing, despite the car having no issues and not being anywhere near the next major‑service kilometres. I reiterated the 3pm pick‑up time and why it mattered. At 2:45pm — fifteen minutes before the agreed time — they called to say it would be another hour and a half. I went in and explained again that I needed the car. They wanted to keep it overnight, which didn’t suit my work commitments. I was charged $740 and told to bring it back Monday for “the last thing to be done.” So Monday I dropped it off again at 7:30am and again confirmed a 3pm pick‑up. I was assured it would be ready. I arrived at 3pm only to be told it still wasn’t done and would be another hour. While waiting, I had to listen to the service staff openly complaining about the bad reviews they’ve been getting — which honestly wasn’t surprising by that point. When I finally got my car, I was told the windows were all down because they changed the fuel filter and there was a strong fuel smell. “Strong” was an understatement. The car absolutely reeks of fuel — so badly that we can smell it inside our house from the garage, which is definitely not normal or safe. I was also told they would email me the invoice and paperwork, but I still haven’t received anything. After a decade of loyalty, this experience was incredibly disappointing. Poor communication, missed deadlines, dismissive service, and now a car that smells like raw fuel. I won’t be returning.

Excellent customer service, professional and very accommodating. You can rely on Shane and his team to get the job done.

My vehicle was recalled. Motors needed it for 3-4 days, due to complexity of parts needing replacement. Loan car was clean, tidy and nice. When I got my car back, the heads up display was not working. Contacted my service representative, they asked me to take the car back in, issues resolved, no cost. They upgraded the infotainment software as well. Very happy with the service provided. Good communication throughout.

Completely emploee run so no one cares about service. Had to bring my car in over 8 times for the same problem, got to the point where they are handing it back to me having not fixed the problem, its still squeezing! A simple drive around the block would have told them they didn't complete the repair problem. So my car still makes noises and is now out of warranty. I wouldn't have bothered doing a review, but I have time now I'm picking up a car for my dad. Waiting in the showroom for 20 min after receiving a text saying the car is ready. Save yourself the hassle and take your car somewhere else. If you come in you might see me still waiting, say hi 👋
