David has been a legend. After checking out a few mechanics in Newcastle, Newcastle Auto-Tech has been a stand out. Informative, helpful and well worth sourcing out if you need any mechanical needs.

I have spent about 6 months trying to get a mechanic to fix a problem with my 2014 Colorado. I had it with my previous mechanic, who was competent for normal issues, but we had to stop going after I took the car to him for three services and he could not stop the car posting a P0017 error - sensor codes cam and crankcase sensor issue. So I took it to another mechnic who had good reviews. They were very thorough but after another 3 services, they gave me my money back (they were nice guys) and said they could not help. So I was left with a car that kept on saying it needed a special service and good mechanics who could not fix it. Then I read the reviews on Newcastle Auto tec and David at Islington. We had a quick chat and he asked some really pertinent questions about needing to do a proper diagnosis and really find the issue. I said the car kept beeping at me and he said that would be good so he could find the issue. But I was already looking at buying another car - it seemed that the car I liked was too much for normal mechanics. So today I dropped my car off at Newcastle Auto tech and by 11am I had a message saying that David had found the problem and was I keen to go ahead. Absolutely. Then I arrived at the the end of the day and we talked, he showed me photos of the problem (the timing was out by 1 tooth) he showed the wave forms of the sensors, and he showed me how it was fixed. For the first time in six months I was in the presence of someone who truly understood my car - its a pretty common 2014 Colorado. On the way home the car was driving well and for the first time in 7 services it did not ping error codes at me! Hooray! It is so nice to find someone who can truly understand the software AND mechanical issues modern cars have. If you have a modern car that is causing your normal mechanic issues, just stop paying and get it into Auto tech - I sound like a zealot, but I truly was wondering what to do with the unfixable car - then David fixed it in one day for a really reasonable price - rating is way over 10/10. Best mechanic I have ever had - I hope he gets lots of new clients, but can still fit me in when I need a service.
