The Automotive Workshop

I took my car to this workshop last week after being recommended for their honesty and fair pricing, but unfortunately my experience was very different. I only needed a simple roadworthy check to transfer my registration to Tasmania. At first, everything seemed straightforward. I received a call saying a few repairs were needed, and after asking for the total cost and confirming that was all, I agreed. However, one or two hours later I received another call with new issues. I accepted again. A couple of hours after that, I was contacted once more with additional findings, and was told the certificate wouldn’t be ready that day but should be completed the next morning. The following day, I received yet another call with even more repairs required, despite asking every time whether that would be everything and being told “yes.” By the end, the bill had climbed to almost $900. The quality of the work was not great in terms of presentation, and for something as simple as wipers, I was only offered one option, which was far from the most affordable. What concerned me most was the lack of professionalism. A professional mechanic inspects the car, lists all required repairs, and provides a full quote upfront. Instead, the information was given to me little by little, which left me feeling trapped after agreeing to the first repairs. Had I been given the full cost from the beginning, I would not have proceeded, or at least I would have had the chance to look for a more economical option. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this garage.

I had a really positive experience with this automotive workshop. The team was reliable, professional, and easy to deal with from start to finish. I especially appreciated their honesty and transparency when explaining the issue with my car and the associated costs—there were no surprises along the way. They were also very accommodating when I needed the repair done urgently, and the work was completed quickly. What stood out the most was the friendly and approachable attitude of the staff, who made me feel comfortable and well-informed throughout the process. Ben is highly attentive to detail, demonstrates excellent communication skills, and provides comprehensive reports on all completed work. I would definitely recommend this workshop to others looking for trustworthy and efficient automotive service.

I was recently travelling in Tassie when my clutch died a few days before I was scheduled to travel back to the mainland. I am so thankful for Ben and his team, they were so helpful and trustworthy throughout the process of replacing my clutch. They fixed it quickly in time for me to keep my original ferry tickets, and I ended up paying less than what was quoted as a result. Cannot recommend them highly enough, thanks again!

I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. The customer service is fantastic, they are incredible thorough and know exactly what they’re doing. I’ve brought three different cars in for Pre-Purchase checks and they’ve given me detailed reports of each one, guiding me through my decisions, as I am not the most knowledgeable about cars. If you’re looking for a fair, knowledgeable, and honest team, I would 100% recommend the Automative Workshop. I will continue bringing my car to them for as long as I am in Hobart! Especially thankful to Ben for all of his help.

It’s rare to find a mechanic you can really trust, but I definitely found one here. Highly recommend to anyone looking for reliable, fair, and friendly service!

I can't recommend this workshop highly enough. We were in a really tough spot with a recently bought car, but Ryan and the team were so kind, helpful and honest. Best experience I've ever had at a mechanic, and won't be going anywhere else in Hobart from now on!

Ben and his team are extremely helpful, transparent and efficient. They have taken my car for an urgent repair the next day after I contacted them, and would have taken it the same day if I was able to drop it off. Ben has kept me updated and informed about all of the work done on the car and provided photos of the damaged parts. The repairs were completed incredibly quickly, especially giving that a lot of disassembly and reassembly was involved. Very reasonably priced as well, and some of the best customer service I have ever experienced from an automotive repair shop! The Automotive workshop was a very lucky last minute find.
