About the company

Launceston Motorworks is Invermay's approved inspection station and operates from a workshop in Invermay. The team includes Justin, Anthony and Thomas, who together have more than 50 years of experience. Hannah works on the admin side of the business. Justin is the owner, senior mechanic, auto electrician, fitter and machinist. Hannah is owner and handles administration. Anthony is a senior vehicle mechanic and vehicle examiner. Thomas is a mobile plant mechanic.

The workshop services daily drivers, classics, muscle cars and European vehicles, and handles vehicles from 1950s carburettor models to late-model fuel injection. A courtesy car is available on request. The business is a Localsearch verified business with a 2026 Certificate of trust. Main services include logbook servicing, mechanical repairs, diesel and 4x4 servicing, diagnostics and auto electrical, brakes and transmission work.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Reliability and straightforward communication emerge as the strongest themes running through feedback on this Invermay workshop, with several customers describing how quickly jobs are turned around after a single morning phone call. Reviewers repeatedly note that quoted figures hold firm, including a same-day ute repair where the amount given by Justin matched the final invoice.

The front-of-house team, frequently named as Justin and Hannah, is described as friendly, humble and professional, offering advice that customers find easy to follow and even arranging transport when a vehicle stayed in the workshop for some hours. Workmanship spans rego and roadworthy inspections, clutch repairs, servicing, alternator installation and clearing instrument cluster codes, with diesel and electrical jobs also noted. Tidiness and a comfortable waiting area come up, along with the resident dog, Pixie, as a small morale boost for visitors.

Customers describe being fitted in at short notice, including last-minute alternator work finished in roughly an hour, and praise the care taken with older four-wheel drives such as an 80 Series Landcruiser. A recurring point is that problems are explained before any spanner work begins, and that the team finishes every task it takes on, with one owner returning for further repairs on a second vehicle.

Needed a Rego inspection for my 80 series Landcruiser after moving back from the mainland. They were able to get me in the next morning and sorted out in under 24 hours. Thanks guys!

This place let my daughter leave with an obvious car fault. Instead of fixing the real issue, they replaced a part that clearly wasn’t the main problem. As a result, she broke down on a public holiday and was left stranded. As a father and a mechanic myself, I find this unacceptable. When we called them afterwards, they were unhelpful and even tried to intimidate my daughter by claiming a phone recording proved she was at fault and the one asking to change this piece. This is not OK, and I’m very disappointed with their service.

Launceston motorworks went above and beyond to help me diagnose and fix my car. I have only positive things to say about my experience, everyone is knowledgeable and kind plus Pixie the dog is an added bonus in the reception area.

Excellent service from Justin and his wife. Friendly greeting upon arrival and they fitted me in for a last minute alternator installation that took exactly 1 hour. Fair price for labour. Will be back!

On arrival I was met with a wonderful smile from the whole team. I was offered a ride to my place of business because I would be without my car for a few hours. The team took great care of my vehicle and accomplished all the work they set out to do even went above and beyond by clearing annoying codes from the instrument cluster. Well done 👍 I highly recommended!!
