A1 Mechanical Cairns

A1 Mechanical is owned by Rikki de Groot, who purchased the workshop in August 2025. De Groot has spent more than 15 years in the automotive and heavy equipment industry, beginning his career as a qualified mechanic and working with major resource companies including BHP, Rio Tinto and Epiroc. The business specialises in fleet servicing and reliability programs, 4WD servicing and diesel diagnostics, advanced diagnostics and electrical fault finding, cooling system and engine reliability testing, and Cape York vehicle preparation and inspections.

It is licensed to perform vehicle inspections and safety certificate inspections for the Department of Motor Transport Queensland. Services include general service, maintenance and logbook services for any make and model; roadworthy safety certificates for all vehicle classes and trailers; tyres, precision wheel alignments and balancing; and GVM upgrades and heavy-duty suspension systems. A1 Mechanical is located in Bungalow, Cairns.

Vehicles arriving with urgent faults, interstate trips looming and long-standing servicing needs all find attention at this Cairns workshop, where the recurring note across feedback is speed without shortcuts. Customers describe being squeezed in at short notice, including diagnostic work on the road when a dealer proved unhelpful, and repairs completed sooner than expected, with brake jobs turned around within days. Mark, Peter and Dirk each earn thanks by name for a professional and friendly manner, and reviewers repeatedly value being consulted before major spending, so informed decisions can be made.

The practice of showing replaced parts is singled out as proof of honest work, and quotes are called reasonable, even where customers note the job was not inexpensive, because the cost is justified once the fault is demonstrated. General servicing, brakes, roadworthy inspections, air conditioning and radiator repairs, spring work and fault-code diagnosis all appear in the accounts. The team is described as down to earth and willing to listen when a problem is explained, with genuine attention to customer safety, and after a visit drivers report smoother gear changes and a tighter handbrake.
